Correct check digits only mean the number is possible, not that it is assigned to an active company. Look it up to see the name, address and latest annual accounts.

How it works
A Belgian enterprise number has ten digits: a 0 or 1, seven digits and two check digits. The VAT number is the same number prefixed with BE.
The check: divide the first eight digits by 97 and subtract the remainder from 97. The result must equal the last two digits.
Nine-digit numbers date from before 2003 and get a leading 0. Since 2019 numbers starting with 1 are issued as well.
The check runs in your browser, nothing is sent. For the name, address and figures behind the number, look the company up on Jaarrekening.be.
Frequently asked questions
Is a VAT number the same as an enterprise number?
Yes. The enterprise number is assigned by the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (CBE). Once the business is VAT-registered, that same number prefixed with BE becomes the VAT number.
The number is valid but I cannot find the company. Why?
Correct check digits only mean the number is possible. It may not have been assigned yet, or the business may already have closed. Look it up to see its legal status.
How do I check whether a customer is VAT-registered?
The company page on Jaarrekening.be shows the VAT status and the start of activity. For intra-community invoices, also check the number in VIES, the European database.
How do I write a Belgian VAT number correctly on an invoice?
BE followed by ten digits, usually grouped as BE 0123.456.789. On intra-community invoices write it without spaces or dots: BE0123456789.
